Hi Sunny,

You will need to see a local attorney for details on your question. Filing requirements and recovery processes differ.

The 'lien' is simply a claim made by a person or business for money owed. It can be for work performed and not paid for ('mechanic's' 'contractors' liens) storage fees, towing fees, etc.

The main thing is that the money is owed, you can prove it is owed to you, and the property owner has failed to pay or failed to respond to your claim. You don't have to be a mechanic to make the claim.

Again, see your attorney. The proofs and filing processes are important, and must be compiled correctly or your claim could be tossed.

Good Luck!
