FitandFun,
There's a huge 'upswell' in the area of kid's fitness products, from tapes and games to clothing and sports. Erika's idea of in-store kiosks for specialty products could be a good one, it just requires a very special set of plans to make it work effectively.
There is no such thing as a 'bad' business idea. Someone once said the way to great wealth is listen to experts tell you what can't be done, then go do it! It works that way for just about any start-up.
The key is research and planning. Starting with a full blown retail outlet may be the 'right' way, maybe not. It could be that working from home as a distributor to area franchisee's is the right way for your idea. Maybe a combination of both, or something entirely different. You have to go out, find your customers, possible 'partners' and ask them.
Research your market, potential outlets and potential area managers operations. Work your analysis and then choose.
Good Luck!
