Should I hire my kids?

Last summer my employyes seemed upset when the kids came to work. It's my business, I should be able to pass it down to them, right?

My bosses kids are a pain. The come in late, leave early expect money from petty cash - ug… wish they were a little more serious. It makes people mad in my office, too.

I think most employees want the owner's kids to be treated like any other employee and not be given any preference. If your employees are upset, they probably think the kids are not earning their keep.

I agree with Hilltop. If your kids are going to work for you, they should be held to as high a standard as everyone else. If they are really serious about taking over for you down the road and running a healthy, profitable business, then I think they should hold themselves to a higher standard than everyone else. It's a part of good leadership. Don't ask others to do something you won't do yourself.
