Is there anything you wanted to ask a business finance underwriter?

I'll be interviewing the Direct Capital Credit Manager for an upcoming blog post. Is there anything you ever wanted to ask a business financing underwriter?

Dave - can you give us a sense for what role Direct Capital's credit manager plays in the financing process? Is this the person responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of the applicant, or something else?

Hi Dave,

It appears that a simple guideline for people looking for 'free money', would be helpful. :)

There seem to be a lot of people in the world who think business loans are made to just about anyone with an idea and a prayer. Dispelling that mythos would be a boon.

You might also ask about the 'Economic Recovery' programs touted by the Democrats, and get the real skinny on where the money actually ends up.

@Erika, he's been with the company for a long time and at some point or another has filled just about every role. Currently he helps establish credit policies for our direct lending but also is still involved with underwritng individual transactions.

@dlyons, thanks for the input. Re: where the money goes, I did a blog post a few months ago that addresses this called "The Business Credit Perfect Storm". The link to it is included below. I'd love your input and comments.

Well, here are the most common questions we've been getting - addressing any of these would be really helpful to the small business folks who've been asking for help here:

* Is it possible to get a loan for my business or startup even if my credit is bad?

* Where are the best sources of funding for small businesses these days?

* What kinds of terms am I likely to get on my business loan?

* I've been turned down by the banks for credit/loan - where else can I turn?

* I was laid off and want to start my business. Can I get a loan without a steady job?

Sign o' the times - you get the idea.

Hi Dave,

After reading your blog post, (great information there!) a couple of other questions occurred to me:

How does a business' form of ownership affect credit worthiness? (Sole Proprietor, Gen/Ltdf Ptrshp, LLC, Corp, Etc.)

In that same vein, what affects on equipment leases vs secured and unsecured loans?

You get the idea.

Happy Thursday!

Wow! Thanks Erika and dlyons! I'll try and fit as much as possible into the interview. What I don't fit I'll address in future blog posts. Great content ideas!
