If my understanding is correct I pay for clicks to my website even though I didn't make a sale. Is this right?

Hi Cindy,

If you have a 'click thru' agreement with somebody (Business.com for example) you will pay for the traffic coming to your site, not the results of that traffic.

Track your monthly click thru reports, compare them against your sales results to measure your return on investment. DON'T expect immediate sales from 'click thru' responses, at least not right away.

I suggest you set limits on the monthly click thru amounts (if that option is available) at least until you have established your site well enough to see what kinds of sales conversion results you receive.

I have such an arrangement with Teleplaza.com, Business.com and a couple of others. Business.com shows the most consistent results for the amount charged per month. (No, they don't pay for the referral. :) )

There are a lot of different kinds of 'click thru' programs and you should research them thoroughly.

Good Luck!

Yes if you are talking about pay per click marketing, that's right! You set up your ads, and then you pay only when people click on them. That is why it's extremely important to make your ads very relevant to what people are searching for, and then the page you direct people to should also be compelling and clear in what you would like them to do (e.g. make a purchase, sign up for a newsletter etc.). If your ad campaigns are not compelling or you don't give them a great reason to buy (or other action), it's very easy to dump in a lot of money for pay per click with no results! I do currently use pay per click marketing successfully and in fact it's the number one way I get sales on my Web site.
